Jihn Hua Urban Infill Leisure Precinct - Jin Hua China

Firm: The Buchanan Group, Sydney

Status: Planned

Team: Allan Stevens, Naomi Fry, Marcello Gama, Deanna Van Buren

Jin Hua is located 4 hours inland from Shanghai. It is a bustling city that is growing and thriving through a variety of nearby industries. The client for this project had already broken ground for this massive development and needed a new masterplan and architectural vision for an open air 3 level urban infill podium that would receive what seemed like an endless number of towers above. Tea houses, craft & art galleries, restaurants and karaoke bars would bring the community to this new precinct in the evening hours. The process began with another intense amount of research on China.

We looked at its cities, traditional courtyard homes, contemporary theorists, architects and ancient landscape philosophies.  This study and the site visit led to the creation of an organic masterplan that would weave through the towers. Civic spaces and leisure zones would punctuate this movement and create places to rest and interact with community.
